A Day in Germany Continues Part !!!

After visiting the Cinderella Castle  in returned to our little place in the Alps and made plans for dinner. I was asked if we were on a tour or just doing this on our own. We are doing this on our own. Jerry and Linda have made numerous trips to Germany over the years and are excellent tour guides. We had light rain today but still had a great day! We took the train to Garmish from Grainau for dinner. This is a 20 minute train ride and took the bus back. We had a nice meal in town but sorry no pictures of food tonight.

A Day in Germany Continues Part II

As was stated earlier, our plans were changed but we still had a great day. The clouds stated and a little light rain fell from the heavens.  Since the top of Germany wasn't happening for us today, our tour guides Jerry & Linda (my brother & sister-in-law) developed a change in plans.  They took us to Schloss Neuschwanstein (Cinderella Castle) for Pat and me to tour. Jerry & Linda had already did the tour so they visited  one of the local villages.  Here are some pictures at the castle.

Trains, Cars, Taxis, Buses, horse drawn wagon, and walking...These are our methods of travel today..my  pedometer read 16432 steps.

A light rain today, visit to Zugspitz postponed until tomorrow.  Plan B..we drove to Fussen and Larry and Pat toured Schloss Neuschwanstein (the Cinderella Castle).  Linda and I went into Fussen for lunch.  Afterwards we met Larry & Pat, returned to Grainau, and then took a train to Garmish for dinner. Another great day in the Alps..

A Day in Germany

Our plans for the day were to go to the top of Germany- Zugspitze.  The weather did not cooperate as it was cloudy in the morning so a change of plans had to be made.  Hopefully, the weather will improve tomorrow and we try to go there then.  More about what our plans changed to will follow in additional post.  Like I said I am the Rookie, Jerry is the pro! We started our day out by walking around Grainau.

Golfing in Austria

On every trip you must take time for golf. How about golfing in Austria at the base of the Alps?

Drive to the Alps

We left Kamp Bornhofen this morning and headed south to the Alps. These are pictures of the area to Grainau. Jerry is teaching me how to add to the Blog, since he and Linda will be leaving us at the end of the week. Pat and I will continue to Rome for another week and I will attempt to add to the Blog. I am not as talented as my brother.  Therefore I ask for your patience and understanding from a Rookie!

Bavaria,Zuletzt(finally) 04-29-14

We left the Rhine River and Castle Leibenstein behind us and struck out on the autobahn in search of a new adventure. The Bavarian Alps are our new destination.

In the south of Bavaria, Germany, from the Allgäu in the west to Upper Bavaria in the east, flanked by majestic, craggy giants and gentle Alpine foothills are some 300 or so lakes that glisten like deep blue sapphires in the sunshine.

After a 6 hour drive along the Rhine River to Lorch, with a ferry crossing across the Rhine, and then the autobahn to the foothills of the Alps, we arrived at our destination.  A beautiful alpine cottage with a great view of the surrounding mountains.  We are getting settled in and tomorrow, weather permitting, we shall ascend Mt. Zugspitz (by train of course).  If not our alternate plan is to go to the Cinderella Castle.  Larry and Pat have not then there.  Time permitting, we will visit Oberomergau, home of the world famous passion play.  So far we have been to Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and today, Austria.

Cruising the Rhine 04-28-14

Our room numbers

Today was kind of a low stress day.  We took the opportunity to cruise the Rhine. Cruising the Rhine is like a journey through time, through the German and European history.  It creates a romantic link between myth and reality. We have the opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine and get to know and learn more about a piece of World Heritage right here.
After a pleasant trip down the Rhine, we docked back at Kamp Bornhofen, where reality was awaiting....laundry day in Germany.  An important part of any trip. To be cont..

p.s.  Pat just asked us if we received a goody package from Delta on the trip over.  The answer is no, no, no.  Not behind the curtain..no goody package...
